FMA Alphonse Cosplay

I just realised I never got around to giving the details on our WCS cosplays. >____<'''

We're still planning to do a photoshoot in the costumes, but that won't be until either after my assessments are all over as I have no time right now.

The costumes took approximately 5months to complete.

made the armour almost entirely out of foam, we used a violent drybrushing technique to get the metal appearance. I say violent because it killed about 5 of my paint brushes. XD It took approximately 10 square metres of foam to make. I also put LED lights inside his head, but we unfortuantely forgot to turn them on whilst on stage. >____<''' Thankfully that didn't matter too much in the end. I remembered to turn them on later for the photos at the Madman booth. xD

The arms are fake. They're made from upholestry foam, leather gloves & wooden poles so I can hold them. The fingers also move with little strips that attach to my fingers which make them grip. XD In regards to my body, my elbows are where the armours' shoulders are & my wrists are where the armours' elbows are, so I needed the fake arm bits to make me look in proportion considering how large a scale I made the armor on, to make him match as my sexy brother Edward.

The whole pattern for the armour I obviously had to make up myself I pretty much did some parts on a scale of 2x my size other parts needed more & other parts needed less, so it was very confusing to work with & I ended up working from the base of the armour up. The heads were one of the last things to be competed as everything had to look in proportion. >_____<'''
Also it had to be taller than me as my head is hiding within the back cavity, so that I would look much taller than Catty & so you could pull my helmet off like in the series & nothing would be there. (as seen in the skit) It made visibility a bitch! As I was only able to see through the grill & I put a piece of fabric there to make sure you couldn't see me during flash photography, which in the end I realised I didn't actually need, but by then it was stuck in & too late to take out. >___<''' So I was pretty much blind throughout, which was not cool when trying to move around on stage. During our skit I actually almost knocked over out suitcase prop because Catty had opened it upside down & I couldn't see it, so it was very likely that we could've smooshed the head behind it or something horrible could've gone wrong had it actually closed on us. >____>'''
Thankgod everything in the skit went perfectly.
There is actually a shelf inside the armour, where I could store the kitties until I through them out of the grill at the front, which just opens up with velcro. (LOVE FOR VELCRO)
The armour itself though massive is surprisingly fitted to my body, which I didn't realise until Catty tried to wear it & couldn't get it on O___O''' We were both like... WTF?
The armour can actually come apart at each part of the body, so that I can make it travel sized to fit in my car, which impressed even me as I have a tiny car. xD Hurray fro travel sized. xD (I'll have to take photos of each piece taken apart some time & show you the lame insides)
I also altered the Ed shoes, the suitcase, the gloves, made the Ed belt from scratch, edited the skit & styled the wigs. (MY ANTENNA STAYED UP! EVEN AFTER BEING SMOOSHED BY THE ARMOUR ON TOP OF MY HEAD! I'm so proud it stayed up! YOSH!!!)


Made all the beautiful coats, that are amazingly done, sit perfectly like the characters & are surprisingly fitted to our bodies, so they would sit differently on anyone else. She even really neatly & accurately painted the symbols on the back of the jackets, as we didn't have time to take them to a printers, nor did we trust anyone else touching our costumes, plus we wonted them to be washable & sewing stuff on the back neatly would've come out or got ruined in the wash. They looked so good & sat under the hood exactly the way they do in the series when we wore them.

She made both the epic pants, which were epically pro, they looked bought, she really needs to teach me to make pants like that. Mine throughly suck by comparrison, THEY HAD POCKETS & WERE MADE TO FIT!!! So sexy!!! >_____<''' She also made both the shirts, she had so much trouble with making stuff to fit me as we could never get together when we were making stuff, it was a real bitch to get everything done seperately especially since with D.Gray-man [link] we made all of our costumes bits together, it was weird not doing it as much for FMA.

Catty also made the epic spear, which unfortunately got broken just before we went on stage, so we had to ask the judges to exclude it as it was broken by someone else, we don't know who. Thankfully all the other WCS entrants backstage tried their best to help us fix it last minute. It was made out of a wooden pole, lots of hot glue & lots of sculpty & was an epic dragon on the end of the blade.


5 MONTHS LATER
We had completed sexy Ed & Al cosplay. xDDD *dances*

Though both of us were really sick on the day, hadn't slept properly in 4weeks (living off like 2hrs sleep every two days was horrible), left our heads at home & had to get Catty's Dad to thankfully bring them for us, we still managed to pull the skit off at the best it could've been. (THANKGOD) >___>'''
